{"id":15637,"date":"2017-02-07T08:30:46","date_gmt":"2017-02-07T13:30:46","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/stagingms.gofleet.com\/?p=15637"},"modified":"2021-07-14T07:29:51","modified_gmt":"2021-07-14T11:29:51","slug":"short-haul-hos-compliance-eld-mandate","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/stagingms.gofleet.com\/short-haul-hos-compliance-eld-mandate\/","title":{"rendered":"Short Haul HOS Compliance &#038; The ELD Mandate"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>If you&#8217;re running a short haul fleet you may be confused about how the Hours of Service rules and <a href=\"https:\/\/stagingms.gofleet.com\/a-complete-guide-to-elds\">ELD Mandate<\/a> affect you; let us try to clear things up.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Exemption from ELDs<\/strong><br \/>\nIf your drivers meet the short haul definition set by the FMCSA then you are not required to maintain RODS and therefore not required to log hours with an <a href=\"https:\/\/stagingms.gofleet.com\/product\/geotab-drive-hos-dvir-solution\">ELD<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Short Haul Driver Definition by the FMCSA<\/strong><br \/>\nShort-haul drivers who are not subject to the 30-minute rest break provision of the new hours-of-service rules must:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Not exceed 11 hours of driving<\/li>\n<li>Start\/finish at the same location within 12 hours<\/li>\n<li>Have minimum time off between shifts of 10 hours<\/li>\n<li>Operate within, and not exceed, 100 mile radius of starting\/ending location<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Worried You Do Not Qualify For Exemption?<\/strong><br \/>\nYour drivers are required to maintain a Record of Duty Status (RODS) if they are travelling outside of the 100 mile radius of their &#8220;home base&#8221; or exceeding the allotted 11 hours of driving time. Meaning that when the ELD mandate goes into effect &#8211; your drivers WILL be required to log their hours on an electronic logging device.<\/p>\n<p><center><strong>The ELD rule compliance deadline is <a href=\"https:\/\/stagingms.gofleet.com\/ifta-reporting-and-the-eld-mandate\/\">December 18th, 2017<\/a>.<\/strong><\/center>Still unsure whether or not you&#8217;re required to use ELDs?
